All-season tyres or summer tyres?

Explainer

Here in the UK our “British summer” unfortunately features little sunshine, quite a lot of rain and very varied temperatures! So, for drivers hitting the roads over the summer months, it’s not uncommon that they’ll be faced with varied weather conditions from all four seasons in the same day…

With that in mind, being able to take a journey with the reassurance that your tyres can perform whatever the weather is crucial. With so many tyres on the market, let’s uncover more about summer and all-season tyres, to help ensure you and your vehicle are equipped, whatever the weather.

Firstly, what is a summer tyre?

For drivers seeking a smooth drive and top performance throughout the warmer months, then summer tyres could be the choice for you. They are specifically designed to provide top performance on both dry and wet roads, whilst being able to deliver optimal performance in temperatures above 7°C.

One main thing for drivers opting for a summer tyre is to take into consideration seasonal tyre swaps and storage requirements. Drivers will need to ensure they have suitable storage solutions to keep the tyres in a safe environment during the months when not needed. For some, storing tyres at home isn’t an option, however a local garage can offer storage solutions throughout the year; but this will come at a cost.

Landsail offers a wide range of summer tyres, designed for cars, SUVs, and vans, dynamically designed for maximum grip and ultra-high performance – perfect for use in the warmer months.

For example, Landsail’s LS188+ is a great option suited to urban and motorway summer driving. The LS188+ offers three longitudinal grooves for exceptional wet weather drainage. Alongside four main tread blocks that are formulated for optimal performance in dry conditions.

And if high performance driving is on your agenda this summer, why not opt for a tyre that will deliver unbeatable performance: the Landsail LS588 provides extreme control, grip, and comfort on the road.

What about all-season tyres?

For some, having to swap out seasonal tyres, especially in the UK when the weather can be so unpredictable isn’t practical, and so all-season tyres could be the right option.\

If you are driving in regions with milder conditions and less extreme changes in temperature, all-season tyres can be a more economical and more convenient choice.

The harder compound of all-season tyres allows the tyre to be more adaptable in varying weather conditions, whilst the hardness of the compound provides optimal grip in drier conditions for added durability during summer months. In addition, they are able to flex and perform in colder, more damp environments too.

A great example of an all-season tyre is the Landsail CLV2, which offers a smooth and comfortable drive, great for use in all-weather conditions. With enhanced braking performance and exceptional wet-weather grip, it’s perfect for any driver who is looking for peace of mind that they are prepared whatever the weather.

How do I know how to make the right choice?

When selecting a tyre, both summer and all-season tyres can provide an ideal option for any driver’s daily requirements. So, before you look to buy the next set of tyres, it’s important to think about the likely weather conditions, where you’ll spend the most time driving, storage space available to you and of course, your vehicle.
