Team Geriatric starts strong in 2023 Retro Rallycross season

Partners news

Tony Lynch is back for another Retro Rallycross season this year to defend his championship title, sponsored once again by Landsail Tyres.

His iconic Toyota MR2 underwent several improvements pre season to improve the handling, performance and reliability, with a hope of starting the new season off strong.

This hard work paid off in the first race weekend of the 2023 season, kicking off at Lydden Hill, where Lynch was crowned 2022 champion back in November.

Tony and Team Geriatric secured an early lead in the championship at Lydden Hill, with a string of podium finishes.

Round 1 saw Lynch secure a winning victory, plus two runner up places despite experiencing gearbox issues, beating rival Terry Moore.

Having overcome the gearbox problems, Lynch had another strong start in round 2, securing a relatively comfortable win in heat 1 despite rain causing tricky track conditions for his opponents. He then doubled up in heat 2 but the race for pole was overtaken in heat 3 by Dan Swayland, who edged out Tony for the class win. However, the roles were reversed in the final when Tony stormed the race, winning the class and finishing third overall.

Team Geriatric’s Tony Lynch said:

“It’s been a busy winter working to improve the Toyota to give us the best chance possible on track. As ever, we wouldn’t be able to go racing without the support of our sponsors and partners, and we are extremely grateful to have retained the backing of those people who were key to us having such a strong season in 2023.

“To come away from the opening weekend with two solid results was the main aim, so I’d say that it’s a case of mission accomplished.

“Although we didn’t manage to get the win in the first round, we had some really good battles on track and I was pleased with how the car performed with the chances we’d made.”

Catch Tony and Team Geriatric at Mondello Park in June for the next race weekend of the season.
