Fuzz joins Glossop Tyres to talk wheel alignment
Fuzz Townshend Tyre TeacherFuzz recently visited the Landsail dealer Glossop Tyres, where staff member Dan Ogden shared his expert knowledge on the importance of tyre alignment and balancing, and how you can identify whether there may be an issue worth getting checked out! Here are some top tips Dan shared with Fuzz…
Irregular wear
A common indicator of an issue with the alignment of your tyres would be irregular tyre wear. Check your tyres regularly for signs of wear, which may show in patches across the tyre, as bald spots, feathering, or more wear on one side of the tyre compared to the other. This could be a sign that you have underlying problems that need immediate attention, as they could cause further damage to your vehicle.
Pulling to the side
If your steering wheel is straight, and the car seems to have a mind of its own when driving on a straight, flat road, this is an indicator of an alignment problem. This makes for an uncomfortable and unsafe driving experience, requiring constant correction of the steering wheel while you drive.
What causes misalignment?
Misalignment can be caused by a few things, such as:
- Hitting potholes or the curb – Sudden impact may jolt the suspension out of alignment
- Worn parts – Issues with parts which link to your wheels may be worn down and, causing them to move out of alignment.
- Minor accidents – Even small collisions may put your tyres out of alignment.
Take the vehicle to your local dealer
As always, if in doubt, it’s recommended to visit your local professional mechanic who can ensure that your car is healthy and you are safe on the road.
